Projects Summary:

The project is aimed at creating a sustainable program for prevention and intervention of violence against students from 5th to 10th grade from Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Pleven, Pirdop, Knezha, Troyan, Mezdra.

It is envisaged to create a unified methodology based on the principles of peaceful pedagogy and school mediation; to present a short film illustrating examples of non-violent learning environments and peaceful dispute resolution in schools; and to conduct on-site communication campaigns in schools across the country to present the programme and the short film, followed by discussions on established good practices in the field.

The expected outcomes are to improve students’ social and emotional skills, reduce incidents of violence and aggression, and create a positive school environment. The project will promote constructive dialogue, tolerance and cooperation between students, teachers and parents, laying the foundation for sustainable change in attitudes and behaviour in school communities.

Project Summary:

The project aims to prevent early marriages and other forms of violence against children in the Roma community and school environment, covering 9 districts, 22 municipalities and 38 schools in Bulgaria. It is envisaged to create a sustainable model for addressing the identified problems, based on cooperation between institutions, local communities and NGOs.

Planned activities include: a national survey on attitudes towards early marriage; a pilot intervention in schools and communities; training of teachers, mediators and social workers; and public awareness campaigns on the issue. Advocacy meetings and conferences are also foreseen to develop normative changes supporting the sustainability of the model at national level.

The project is expected to contribute to the reduction of early marriages, ethnic bullying and aggression, as well as to strengthening cooperation between communities and institutions.

Project Summary:

The project is aimed at improving the system for the protection of children in cases of violence, covering the city of Sofia and the districts of Blagoevgrad and Vratsa. The main objective is to strengthen coordination between institutions, change attitudes and increase the knowledge and skills of professionals and students for effective intervention and protection of children.

Activities include analysis of protection legislation and practices, training for social and medical science students and practical exercises on working with child victims of violence. The project includes workshops and trainings for professionals, as well as a final conference to exchange good practices and discuss the results achieved.

The project will contribute to improving institutional capacity, building integrated approaches and awareness of the importance of the topic among students, professionals and the general public. Expected outcomes include increased sensitivity to the issue, more effective institutional performance and sustainable changes in the child protection system.

Initiative’s Name: Ending Violence Against Children in Boarding Schools and Social and Pedagogical Boarding Schools in Bulgaria

Project Summary:

The project focuses on addressing violence against children in Re-educational Boarding Schools, Social and Pedagogical Boarding Schools and Temporary Accommodation Homes for Minors in Bulgaria. Its main objective is to create a system of educational measures free from violence and to provide effective support for children who have experienced traumatic situations.

The project includes an in-depth analysis of the problem through desk research, monitoring visits and information gathering on the anti-violence system that is being implemented. Based on the data collected, a report will be prepared with concrete recommendations to improve the legal framework and practices for the protection of children in these institutions.

Activities will include an advocacy campaign to present the recommendations to key institutions, a national meeting for discussion and public sensitisation on the issue. The project aims to contribute to a long-term change in policies, practices and attitudes towards the problem of violence, ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of the proposed measures.

Initiative’s Name: Theatre Against Bullying at School

Project Summary:

The project aims to improve the quality of education and social inclusion of vulnerable groups through innovative learning methods and cooperation between educational institutions and local communities.

The activities will target children and young people from socially disadvantaged families, as well as teachers and social workers who will receive specialized training. The project will be implemented in 17 locations in Bulgaria, covering educational and social centres in different regions.

The main activities include organizing training workshops, creating interactive educational materials, conducting cultural and social initiatives to promote integration, and providing mentoring support for the youth.

Expected outcomes include raising participants’ educational achievement, improving their social skills and facilitating their access to further development opportunities. The project will also help to strengthen partnerships between educational institutions and local organisations, which is expected to contribute to the sustainability of the initiative in the long term.

Initiative’s Name: Supporting Children on the Move

Project Summary:

The project is aimed at protecting the most vulnerable group of children – asylum-seeking children, especially unaccompanied children, who are exposed to serious risks of violence and abuse during their migration. It aims to provide independent monitoring of violence against these children, advocacy to protect their rights and holistic support through information, social and legal assistance in crisis cases.

The project will be implemented at national level, with the main activities covering Sofia, Harmanli, Stara Zagora, Ruse and Burgas. It includes the creation of a monitoring platform, interviews and focus groups with children, analysis of state practices, advocacy campaigns and public discussions.

Expected outcomes include the establishment of a mechanism for documenting violence against Ref. №ugee children, support for at least 200 vulnerable children through social and legal assistance, and the organization of public discussions and round tables. The long-term vision of the project is to ensure effective protection of children in migration through better institutional mechanisms and increased public attention to the issue.

Initiative’s Name: A Future without Violence

Project Summary:

The project “A Future without Violence” aims to increase the capacity of professionals working with children to prevent and respond to violence against them. By training and supporting educators, psychologists, social workers and other professionals, the project aims to strengthen the protection of young children. The project will be implemented in 7 kindergartens and 4 social services, reaching over 130 professionals and over 1000 children.

The main activities include trainings on children’s rights and violence prevention, follow-up methodological support, as well as exchange of experience between professionals. Children’s councils will be introduced to involve children in decision-making and cross-sectoral cooperation between education, social and health sectors will be promoted.

Expected outcomes include improved ability of professionals to recognize and respond to violence, increased involvement of parents and children in the educational process, and the establishment of sustainable practices to protect children’s rights.

Initiative’s Name: SOS for Difficult Behaviour

Project Summary:

The project aims to create a multidisciplinary service for children with behavioural difficulties, their parents and teachers. It will be implemented in the municipalities of Burgas and Gabrovo, where two multidisciplinary teams will be established to work with 6 pilot schools, providing support in cases of disruptive behaviour and violence.

Key activities include mapping resources in local municipalities, establishing a mechanism for schools and services to work together locally, and providing training for professionals and parents. A team will be formed in each school to provide early intervention and support for children with behavioural problems.

Expected outcomes include reducing stigma and exclusion of children with behavioural difficulties, improving collaboration between schools and local services and providing a sustainable support mechanism that can be extended to other municipalities. The project also aims to empower children and parents to seek support and improve school policies to prevent violence.

Initiative’s Name: Children Bring Change to a World without Violence

Project Summary:

The aim of the project “Children Bring Change to a World without Violence ” is to raise awareness and prevention of violence against children in Bulgaria through training and sensitization of students, teachers and professionals. The project will be implemented in three major cities – Burgas, Plovdiv and Sofia, and the main target groups include students, teachers, parents and professionals working with children.

Activities include training for teachers and professionals in the recognition of forms of violence, prevention campaigns with students, the creation of advocacy and mediation skills through student councils and the development of a specialized therapeutic program for the recovery of children victims of violence.

Expected outcomes include increased awareness and sensitivity to violence, active civic engagement campaigns for students, learned advocacy and mediation skills, and improved services for child survivors of violence. Initiative’s Name: Building a Safe School Environment Through the Introduction of Restorative Practices

Project Summary:

The project aims to create a safe and healthy school environment by introducing restorative practices to prevent violence and bullying in schools. The project will be implemented in four Bulgarian cities: Gotse Delchev, Blagoevgrad, Montana and Varshets. The main beneficiaries would be educators, school principals, students and municipal officials.

Activities include developing a curriculum and a manual on restorative practices, training 20 educators, conducting workshops for teachers and students, and organizing a final conference. Restorative practices will be introduced in schools through training and the creation of plans for their implementation in the teaching process.

Expected outcomes include the creation of a community of trained educators and schools that actively implement restorative practices to manage conflict. The project will contribute to the creation of a school culture based on respect, empathy and non-violent problem solving, which is expected to improve the social environment and safety in schools.

Initiative’s Name: Model for Integrated Provision of Specialized Social Service for Intervention and Secondary Prevention of Children Victims of Violence

Project Summary:

The project aims to develop and implement a model for an integrated social service “Protection Zone”/”Barnahus”, which will provide coordinated support to children victims of violence through cooperation between social services, police, prosecution, judiciary and health institutions. The model will be tested in three regions – Vidin, Shumen and Sofia-city. The main beneficiaries are children aged 0-18 years, victims of violence, and their families.

Within the project workshops will be held for professionals from different institutions who will increase their competences for interprofessional interaction and advocacy. Individual support plans for children will be created, as well as normative and methodological documents that will facilitate the implementation of the integrated service.

Expected results include the development of a sustainable model for cross-sectoral support, improved coordination between institutions and increased competences of 150 professionals. The project will contribute to the establishment of the “Protection Zone” as a national standard for child protection and ensure the sustainable implementation of the model in the country.

Initiative’s Name: Safe Body Policy = Zero Tolerance to Violence

Project Summary:

The project aims to prevent violence against and between children by training professionals in kindergartens, schools and health facilities, as well as by activating the children’s community. The end users of the project are children from kindergartens and schools in Sofia, Ruse and Sliven, as well as pediatricians from Pirogov Hospital. The project will be implemented in these three cities and will cover over 2,600 children and 500 adults.

The main activities include: developing a training model, conducting trainings for 247 professionals, activating the “Healing Power of the Children’s Community” by working with 50 children and creating video resources for violence prevention. In addition, information meetings will be organised with more than 500 professionals from the educational and social sectors.

Expected outcomes include increasing the knowledge of trained professionals, building intolerance to violence and activating the children’s community for violence prevention.

Initiative’s Name: Child Abuse: The Role of the Paediatrician

Project Summary:

The project aims to increase the competences of medical professionals working with children on the recognition, response and prevention of violence against children. The main target groups are doctors, nurses and health workers who are based in Sofia, Burgas, Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo.

Planned activities include a survey of paediatricians’ attitudes, the development of a specialised manual and the organisation of training for 150 health workers. The campaign to communicate the results will be implemented through presentations at scientific conferences and publications in newsletters and electronic publications, which will reach over 3000 professionals.

Expected outcomes of the project include increasing doctors’ knowledge of the signs of violence and appropriate action in such cases. The final effect is expected to be an increase in the confidence and readiness of medical professionals to respond effectively and prevent violence against children in Bulgaria.

Initiative’s Name: Prevention of Violence Between Children

Project Summary:

The prevention of violence between children requires the development of social and emotional skills such as self-regulation, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution. A lack of these leads to aggressive behaviour and communication difficulties.

The project aims to create a model for social-emotional learning for children from 3 to 10 years old in Pazardzhik Region. An evidence-based methodology will be developed, piloted and validated. Forty educators will be trained to implement it in kindergartens and schools. The project also includes monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the training.

The methodology will be based on the skillstreaming approach, emphasizing active modelling of behavioural skills. Teachers will receive specialized training and supervision to support them in applying the new methods.

The project is expected to reach about 1000 children, creating a sustainable practice for teaching social and emotional skills. The final event will present the results and promote the dissemination of the methodology. The aim is to build a safe environment where violence is prevented through emotional intelligence and positive relationships.

Project Summary:

The project aims to improve the effectiveness of the Coordination Mechanism for work with children at risk in the municipality of Dupnitsa by focusing on the prevention and counteraction of violence against children. The mission of the project is to increase the sensitivity, knowledge and skills of children, parents and professionals to recognize, report and intervene in cases of violence. Its vision is to create a society that values diversity and respects the rights of every child. Target groups include 200 children aged 10-14, 160 parents and 20 experts from local and state institutions.

The main activities of the project include an analysis of existing mechanisms to protect children from violence, trainings for children, parents and professionals, and the creation and testing of an innovative educational board game on violence.

Expected results include increased competence and sensitivity of the actors, improved multifunctional cooperation between institutions, as well as integration of the newly established multi-sectoral cooperation unit into the Coordination Mechanism for children at risk. Local community activism in seeking support in cases of violence against children is expected to increase.

Initiative’s Name: Sustainable Model for Prevention and Counteraction of Violence Against Children

Project Summary:

The aim of the project is to start working on the prevention of violence against children in Roma communities in small settlements of Targovishte Municipality by building local civil groups trained to fight violence. The project involves working with children, parents, institutions and local leaders. The mission is to raise awareness about violence and create sustainable mechanisms to prevent it. The vision of the project is to build a safe environment for children in Roma communities where violence is reduced and local communities are actively involved in addressing this issue.

The target groups include children from 5th to 7th grade, parents, local citizens and institutions from five small settlements in Targovishte municipality. The main activities are the training of children, parents and members of the civic groups, the creation of these groups and the organization of monthly meetings to discuss specific cases of violence.

Expected outcomes of the project include the creation of sustainable civic groups for violence prevention, increased awareness of violence issues and long-term commitment of local communities to provide a safe environment for children.

Initiative’s Name: Safe Future: Preventing and Protecting Children from Violence at School and in the Community

The aim of the project is to provide safety and protection for children affected by violence, while raising awareness in local communities about prevention and response to incidents of violence inside and outside school. The project will be implemented in the municipalities of Antonovo, Strazhitsa, Pavlikeni and Lyaskovets, with the main beneficiaries being children aged 7-18, parents and professionals working with children.

Key activities include training for teachers and social workers, workshops for parents, school mediation programmes and campaigns to raise awareness of children’s rights and protection. Specific intervention and support measures for children affected by violence will be developed and implemented.

Expected outcomes include improved child protection through awareness and training of parents and professionals, a reduction in incidents of violence in schools and communities, and sustained engagement of local authorities in providing a safe environment for children.

The project aims to build a mechanism for prevention and combating child violence in Lovech Region, involving students aged 7-18, their parents, as well as experts working with children – teachers, psychologists, pedagogical advisors and representatives of institutions and NGOs. The involvement of a wide range of stakeholders ensures the sustainability and effectiveness of the measures taken.

The main activities of the project include conducting focus groups for needs analysis, developing a methodology for violence prevention, training for professionals, implementation and evaluation of the methodology in selected schools, organizing a public forum and an information campaign.

The expected results are better recognition of cases of violence, strengthened institutional dialogue, increased awareness of parents and the community, and improved professional training of experts. The implementation of the project will contribute to the reduction of cases of child abuse and to the creation of a safer environment for children in Lovech Region.

Initiative’s Name: “Quiet Leadership: Partnerships for Sustainable Childhood”

Project Summary:

The project aims to provide support to children with mental distress, prevent violence at school and create an inclusive learning environment. Through training, interventions and empowerment of students and teachers, the initiative aims to build a sustainable school mental health system.

The end-users are students, teachers and parents from Gorna Malina Municipality and the project will be implemented in three schools in the area.

Key activities include training teachers to recognise mental disorders, building a mobile team of psychologists for one-to-one counselling and developing school support policies. The project will establish an initiative called “Ambassadors without Bullying”, which will involve students involved in violence prevention. Additionally, sessions on therapeutic photography and radio programmes aimed at raising awareness of mental health will be conducted.

The expected results are improved teacher training, better support for at-risk students, reduced incidents of school violence and a healthier school environment through active involvement of the whole community.

Initiative’s Name: A World Without Violence Against Children!

The project will be implemented in the region of Silistra, with the end users being children from 0 to 18 years and their families, as well as professionals from the social, educational and justice sectors.

Activities include monitoring institutional practices for child protection, training for professionals in violence recognition and intervention, and the establishment of a “Youth Prevention Centre” to engage young people as volunteers in prevention. Information campaigns and public events are also planned.

The project also aims to strengthen the organization’s capacity to prevent violence against children and provide support to victims as part of the integrated child protection system.

Expected outcomes include increased awareness and capacity of professionals, more effective child protection, increased child participation in prevention and the promotion of zero tolerance to violence. Initiative’s Name: Young People in Defence of Children’s Rights

The project aims to inform and engage young people aged 14-21 from Ruse region in the processes of prevention of violence against children using innovative and interactive methods. Through the platform www.kidsprotect.eu, podcasts, debates, animated videos and exhibitions, the project aims to encourage the active participation of young people in public dialogue and interaction with institutions.

Activities include management and coordination, the creation of youth clubs for discussion and debate, a digital campaign with animated videos and selfie challenges, and the revamping of the whistleblowing platform. The project will involve young people from Ruse and the region, with the involvement of professionals from different sectors.

Expected outcomes include increased awareness among children of their rights, active participation in violence prevention, increased cooperation between institutions and young people, and the establishment of sustainable mechanisms for the protection of children’s rights. The project will contribute to creating a safer and more supportive environment for children and young people.

The project aims to create a model for promoting children’s participation and empowering students by involving them in decision-making processes in school communities. The project will be implemented in Gabrovo and Sevlievo, involving students from four high schools, teachers, parents and representatives of local authorities.

Within the project 8 one-day and 2 two-day trainings will be held for the student team, as well as 4 trainings for pedagogical advisors, class leaders and parents. Youth surveys and student initiatives will be implemented to engage a wider range of students. In addition, professionals will receive methodological support and supervision to support youth participation more effectively.

Expected results include increased participation of students in school life, better knowledge of their rights, successful youth initiatives and improved cooperation between students, teachers, parents and institutions. The project will contribute to violence prevention and create sustainable mechanisms for child participation that can be implemented in other school communities.

The project aims to create a safe and supportive environment for children in foster care in Bulgaria by reducing the risk of violence, discrimination and stigmatization. The main activities will focus on raising the competences of teachers and foster parents as well as public awareness.

The project will cover the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Pleven, Varna and Stara Zagora. End users will be about 200 children in foster families, 100 teachers and 50 foster parents. Trainings will be held for teachers to recognize signs of violence and provide support to children at risk. Foster parents will receive specialized training in working with traumatized children. An information campaign will be launched to overcome stereotypes and ensure the integration of these children into society.

Expected outcomes include increasing the competencies of teachers and foster carers, reducing stigma towards children in foster care and creating sustainable support for children, which will lead to improved safety and mental wellbeing.

The “It’s Fun, It’s Easy” project targets 30 children aged 8 to 14 who are exposed to or at risk of various forms of physical or mental abuse. The main aim of the project is to improve the mental and emotional state of the children through attractive activities related to the sea, using the method of Deeptherapy (underwater therapy). This method involves diving and underwater swimming with scuba equipment and has been successfully applied in Scotland and California. The Marine Club “Friends of the Sea”, realizing its project for the first time in Bulgaria will apply the method of underwater therapy.

Within the project, children will participate in diving and underwater swimming training in the pool and at sea, will engage in games and teamwork training. Each participant will receive an international certificate of diving proficiency. At the end of the project, it is expected to note a significant change in the children’s mental state as well as their social status.

The project “Invisible Scars” aims to raise public awareness about violence against children and teenagers in the municipality of Kyustendil. It will focus on empowering young people who have experienced violence to share their experiences through short videos that will be distributed to students, teachers, parents and institutions in the region.

Key activities will include creating a snapshot map of violence in the municipality, training youth to generate video scenarios, filming 6 short videos, and running a social media campaign with a TikTok focus. The campaign will be supported by the distribution of posters drawing attention to the videos.

Expected outcomes of the project include raising awareness of violence, creating a youth community to support victims, activating schools and institutions in the fight against violence and reducing stigma around victims. The project is expected to lead to a zero tolerance culture towards violence and improve safety and support for vulnerable children in Kyustendil.
